SouthGate Pedestrian Bridge

Built in 1989 the Southgate pedestrian bridge over the Yarra River in Melbourne provides the main pedestrian link for thousands of workers and tourists between Flinders Street Station and the Southgate business and entertainment precinct.

Originally finished with traditional Merbau timber decking and more recently painted on 2 previous occasions with “anti slip” paints the maintenance of this this high profile location had in respect excessive wear, reduced safety and poor visual aesthetics become a concern for the Melbourne City Council.

In late 2006 City Wide services on behalf of MCC specified the removal of the existing timber deck and adopted to replace the existing deck with prefabricated “OmniTreads” to provide a long term solution to both the long term safety and aesthetics of the finished timber deck.

Constructed from dressed Merbau timbers OmniTread decking panels are prefabricated to include the unique OMNIGRIP Deco surfacing to provide a durable, slip resistant and aesthetically pleasing decking finish
